Kelantan, Malaysia, nestled in the northeastern part of the peninsula, is a region rich in cultural heritage but highly vulnerable to natural disasters. The state frequently faces severe flooding during the northeast monsoon season, landslides due to heavy rainfall, and coastal erosion along the South China Sea. Climate change exacerbates these issues, with rising temperatures, more intense rainfall, and sea level rise threatening agriculture, health, and coastal communities. In response, Kelantan is actively enhancing flood barriers, improving drainage systems, implementing early warning systems, and promoting sustainable agriculture. Locating settlements and communities on MapSwipe plays a crucial role in improving access to open geospatial data for disaster management, providing accurate data for emergency response, resource allocation, and planning resilient infrastructure, ultimately strengthening the region's preparedness and resilience against these growing threats. This project is part of the Open Mapping Guru Climate Change Challenge 2024 hosted by the Open Mapping Hub Asia - Pacific, Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, and TomTom.
