Project overview

# Mapping Settlements for NTT Earthquake Response On 15 August 2026, a **M7.7 earthquake** struck offshore near Mbay, Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, at a shallow depth of 15 km. As of BNPB's latest update (16 August, 16:00 WIB), the disaster has caused **53+ deaths, 135+ injured, and 5,000+ displaced** across Manggarai, Manggarai Timur, Sikka, Ende, Manggarai Barat, and Nagekeo — figures still rising as verification continues. **Your task:** Help identify and locate settlements across earthquake-affected NTT by reviewing satellite imagery tiles and flagging where buildings and populated areas are. This granular, up-to-date settlement data fills gaps in outdated maps and helps humanitarian responders find communities that need aid — especially in remote or hard-to-reach areas where official records lag behind. **Why it matters:** Local agencies and BPBD teams are coordinating search, evacuation, and aid delivery in real time, but many rural settlements aren't well-mapped. By volunteering just a few minutes swiping through tiles, you help build the settlement location data that lets responders target relief where it's actually needed — turning imagery into life-saving logistics. **Source:** BNPB (Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana / Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency)

Download the data

Below you'll find the data downloads for this MapSwipe project, including a GeoJSON file that can be imported into the HOT Tasking Manager for more detailed mapping of the area. Aggregated Results
Aggregated Results. This gives you the unfiltered MapSwipe results aggregated on the task level. This is most suited if you want to apply some custom data processing with the MapSwipe data, e.g. select only specific tasks. Check our documentation for more details. (Note that you need to unzip this .gz file before you can use it.)

HOT Tasking Manager Geometries
This dataset contains shapes that are ready to use in the HOT Tasking Manager. Currently, the geometries consist of maximum 15 MapSwipe Tasks, where at least 35% of all users indicated the presence of a building by classifying as "yes" or "maybe"

Moderate to High Agreement Yes Maybe Geometries
This dataset contains all results where at least 35% of users submitted a "yes" or "maybe" classification. The output dataset depicts the union of all selected results.
